Spencer Brown

Based in San Francisco, 24-year-old Spencer Brown creates forward-thinking dance music that defies quick-shifting industry trends, carving his fresh take on the progressive space by creating earworms that incorporate authenticity with accessibility.

After Above & Beyond discovered Spencer through his graceful 2014 debut release “Chalice EP” on Avicii’s LE7ELS (garnering over 1.5 million listens), a string of successful EPs on their legendary Anjunabeats label led to his 2018 debut album “Illusion of Perfection,” presented in a continuous mix. This mix-album journey was Spencer’s creative response to the modern era of pumping out saturated radio-edited singles, something from which Spencer shies away.

Having received diverse DJ & radio support from Avicii, Above & Beyond, Armin van Buuren, Pete Tong, Hardwell, Danny Howard, Seven Lions, Gareth Emery, and more, Spencer continues to showcase the diversity of his productions ranging from house to techno, trance to deep house, all the while encapsulating his unique progressive flow.

Outside of the studio, Spencer is no stranger to the road. After making his live debut at Avicii’s 2013 Hollywood Bowl show, Spencer was invited to tour across North America on Avicii's True Tour in stadiums such as Barclay’s Center, TD Garden, and Rogers’ Centre. This extensive touring was done while studying Electrical & Computer Engineering at the prestigious Duke University, where he graduated with distinction in 2016 after publishing a 47-page thesis on omnidirectional loudspeakers.

With over 10 years of DJing under his belt, Spencer’s live brilliance is rooted in his renovation of the classical ideology focusing on reading the room and defiance of premade sets to create an unparalleled journey mostly comprised of his original material. Following up his opening for Above & Beyond’s colossal 2018 Common Ground tour (in venues such as the LA Convention Center), Spencer embarked on his own mammoth international headline “Illusion of Perfection” tour to support his mixalbum, packed with 3 to 6 hour extended and open-to-close marathon sets.

His passionate, ever-growing fanbase has opened the door to playing at top festivals around the world, such as Tomorrowland Belgium, EDC Las Vegas, Electric Zoo NYC, Global Dance Denver, Ile Soniq Montreal, Dreams Fest Toronto, Electric Festival Helsinki, and many more. In addition to the festival circuit, Spencer has been invited to play some of the most renowned clubs in the world, such as Output Brooklyn, Echostage DC, Space Miami, and Hï Ibiza (invited by Armin van Buuren).

Spencer’s relentless work ethic and production prolificacy, crystal clear vision, extensive A-List DJ support, and forward thinking compositions forecast a breakthrough as he continues to deliver ambitious performances that can stand the test of time.

After many failed attempts at losing his virginity back while still in college, a desperate yet ambitious Jade turns to alternative measures. Having watched Music Television once, he decides to become a rock star. And so Jade sets forth to form a band. Much to his and everyone’s surprise, his band Blend becomes the first in the Middle East ever to be signed to a major record label. The band’s debut album Act One was released in 2003. But despite having gained rock star status, and all the acclaim and the tours; Jade was still unfortunate when it came to losing his innocence. By that time, an emerging scene unlikely came to Jade’s limited attention. Tempted by the sexually charged dance floors of the Electronic Music scene, Jade wishfully decides to become a DJ. Shortly after, he starts throwing underground parties in Beirut, hosts his own radio show, and finally opens his very own club. Yet all his efforts were still in vain. His only consolation was the success of his club “The Basement”, which became a reference for Alternative & Dance Music in Beirut. His DJ career had him touring the world, playing in some of the most eccentric cities the likes of Moscow, Morocco, and Berlin. He also found another way to release his tensions. He set up a recording studio, and began producing electronic music and releasing it on labels like Presslab and Great Stuff. He also made time to make music for the ad industry, working with some of the most prominent agencies in the business. He formed a two-piece self-produced band with his studio mate Fe, in 2011: “Robert Polson”, and started a new live music/visual project with VJ TM: “The Middle Beast”, that focuses on blending his oriental influences with cutting edge electronic music. Until this very day, Jade still maintains a busy touring and studio schedule, and hopes that this half a minute would come when he would finally realize his life long dream.

Zai was 15 when he first started hitting the clubs with his friends and enjoyed the house music so much that he wanted to discover more about electronic dance music. Zai was intrigued by the tech house sounds coming from Dj’s like Dj Chus, Joris Voorn, Nic Fanculli, Mark Knight and Carl Cox and soon became an inspiration. That's when he decided to take things up a notch.

After listening to tracks and watching Youtube videos coming from the hands of international well known Dj’s, zai decided to go out and purchase a set of decks. Day by day the dream of him behind the decks wooing the crowd was growing bigger as he was learning.

By the age of 23 Zai was spending long weekends at Sharm El Sheikh where all the top branded clubs were like Space, Pacha and Hardrock. He didn’t just come for the partying, Zai wanted to learn the ropes of how the club industry worked in terms of getting a residency.

Zai was approached by the Manager of Ministry of Sound (Egypt) and once he got to know Zai he was drawn to his talent so Zai was in luck as they gave him the residency at the very popular ‘Ministry of Sound’ at Pacha. His dream of becoming a DJ finally came true.

During his time at Ministry of Sound the name ‘ZAI’ started to become the talk of Sharm El Sheikh which lead to Zai getting booked at Hardrock.

In 2012, Ministry of Sound relocated there party to the most glamorous club in Sharm el sheikh Space! Unfortunately later that year the world’s biggest dance brand left. After witnessing his incredible talent on the decks, Space Sharm gave him the opportunity to shine permanently by handing him over a residency. Until this present day Zai is still at Space rocking the dance floor at flagship night’s ‘Escape’ ‘Ibiza Sessions’ and 'Terrace Fridays' supplying his Tech House beats.

Zai was interviewed by mix mag and has stated that he intends on teaming up with producer DDZ and producing his first ever track in the style of tech house.
